Since its foundation, the Deutsch-Nordische Burse has developed from a student residence to a popular meeting place for students from Germany and all the Scandinavian and Baltic countries. It has become the point of contact for many young people who come to Kiel to study here. A special place where you are not anonymous resident. A place and you can get actively involved and participate in shaping student life. To really feel at home as a student in your new environment, you need a pleasant living environment. This has been supported by the "Stiftung Deutsch-Nordische Burse" since 1979. The funded measures range from the provision of an extensive range of newspapers and magazines, to the modernization of the equipment in the common rooms (including the computer, cinema and music rooms, the kitchens, the library or the bar), the provision of sports equipment (among other things with fitness equipment, a pool table or canoe). In addition community-building and cultural activities are supported (e.g. by visiting concerts, theaters or museums). The initiatives always come from the Bursians, because they determine the need, present the suggestions and discuss the financial framework and the concrete implementation steps with the board of the funding group.
The financial means are provided by more than 200 members of the support group. You pay annual contributions in a range of approx. EUR 5 to EUR 150, depending on your own economic opportunities. Anyone who wants to actively support the work of the support group can become a member. Mainly these are the current or former residents of the Deutsch-Nordischen Burse, who have been involved in home life and who want to pass on something of the unique atmosphere of this house to future student generations through their membership in the Förderkreis.
