Activities
The core of living in the Deutsch-Nordische Burse are the activities organized by the residents. Because many residents are from Nordic and Baltic countries, scandinavian festivals are also celebrated in the Burse.
The finnish festival "Sillis" is celebrated on May 1st. At 12 p.m. every one in Burse meets in the garden, some residents have already prepared food and drinks. Around 120 Bursians and guests then spend several homely hours in the garden. The culmination of the day is that all the brave take a walk to the Förde and make a first jump into the ice-cold water.
"Julefrokost" is a traditional festival that is celebrated by the Bursians and their friends. This traditional danish celebration always takes place in early December. Danish residents try to make Julefrokost as "detailed" as possible. That why the focus lays on rich food and drinks. In addition to sild (marinated herring), snapshots and ris á la mande, they also dance together around the Christmas tree.

On December 13th another scandinavian tradition is cultivated: "Lucia". Lucia Day is a pre-Christmas celebration connected with the winter solstice, in which Lucia bride distributes gifts with a burning candle crown. The tradition is based on the story of a saint and martyr living in southern Italy in the 3rd century.
Early in the morning on Lucia Day, girls and boys dressed in white with candles walk through the house according to swedish tradition. There is a knock on every door, and those who have left their door open intentionally or unintentionally are woken up with singing and at the same time are given traditional swedish Lucia pastries - the so-called "Lussebollar".
In addition to the typical scandinavian celebrations, the Burse also has other events to offer. The seniors organize a bar evening every week in the in-house bar. In a relaxed atmosphere, people can chat, drink and relax. Besides to the normal bar evenings, there are also various themed evenings. These take place in an irregular sequence. For example, several cocktail evenings, Irish evenings, French evenings, beach parties and similar events have already been held.
In addition to the senior citizens, the tutors also take action and organize various events during the semester. A special highlight is the Glöggabend, which takes place a few weeks before Christmas. The event takes place in the (billiard) hall decorated for Christmas. In this cozy setting, mulled wine (with or without rum) and Glögg are drunk the Swedish way and cake is eaten. At the same time, the cake competition takes place, in which the best cake is awarded.
The tutors also organize other activities, for example a visit to the Kiel City Museum and the Kiel Brewery, chess tournaments, billiard tournaments, table football tournaments, game evenings, table tennis tournaments, snow grilling, poetry slams,...
